Romelson came home one day and announced he was going to audition for a part in the school's Christmas play. That was quite a surprise since we thought Tonton was not into that. He was a little shy ... always preferred to be on the sidelines.
A few days after, he told all of us again he got into the play, and he would be playing a goat's part. Well, we mused, a goat's part. Definitely not a big deal.
Then he came home with the script, showed his speaking parts to me, all two lines, highligted by his teacher using a yellow highlighter pen. Again, I thought, not a big deal.
Then came the slip asking our permission to allow Romelson to attend regular practices after class hours. We took note of the schedules and signed the slip. So I thought again, no big deal.
After a few weeks, he would talk about his practices, how one "goat" backed out, and how he got the additional assignment of assuming the role of the 2nd goat.
With the playdate coming to a close, he gave us the paper containing costume instructions. We had to buy gray long sleeved shirt and a black jogging pants. Then with precise instructions to buy the goat's horn in SM.
The day before the actual playdate (was that the day before? I can not even remember ...) they had their dress rehearsal. Romelson came home with his face painted to look like a goat.
Excitement began.
Play date came. Showtime was 6 pm. By 12 noon, he was ready. He said they needed to be in the school by 1 pm for the make up. Imagine, 5 hours of make up. This must be a big deal after all.
The lights turned low. The cast were all lined up at the back of the covered court, eagerly waiting to enter.
We saw Romelson. He looked very cute.
Then it all began to unfold before our very eyes.
He was just one of the very many cast of the play. But for me and my whole family, we were there for him. To our amazement, he delivered not just one or two or three lines, I actually lost count! And he did them very very well.
That was my proudest moment. There he was, my tiny little boy, delivering his part, dancing and singing.
